Since our inception in 1997, the Karakorum Racing Team has brought the excitement of horse racing to over 1,000 partners. You can now get involved in a thoroughbred limited partnership for as low as $499, and watch your horse compete at Belmont, Saratoga and Aqueduct.
Karakorum’s current racing stable comprises about 30 thoroughbreds currently racing and in training. We also have yearlings who will be running as 2 year-olds and are available now. Most of our horses are NY-breds who compete at the New York Racing Association (NYRA) and are managed by veteran trainers Jeff Odintz, Linda Rice and Jimmy Jerkens. Also, our horses race in the Middle Atlantic region with trainers Chris Englehart and Todd Beattie.
Since 2006, our horses have won 14% of the races they entered and have been in the money over 38% of the time while earning more than $1 mm in purses. Our current top runners include include state-bred stakes and open-company winner Karakorum Starlet, turf filly Karakorum Elektra, and solid geldings Karakorum Thunder and Chernobyl’s Hero. Our recent notable horses include multiple stakes-winners Karakorum Splendor and Strike the Brass; Karakorum Dixie, who won nine races in a row; Fly With Karakorum, a $250k earner; Karakorum Patriot, Karakorum Tuxedo, and Karakorum’s Lisa.

Karakorum Elektra, fresh off a seven month layoff, broke on top of nine other males horses in a $50,000 starter allowance going six furlongs over Belmont's inner turf. Alan Garcia got her to relax behind Purely by Chance. Elektra, gradually found herself faded to fifth, surrounded by horses all the way to deep stretch where she seemed to try to go right through the early leaders. Garcia wrangled her back and out to find running room outside the leader. With less than a sixteenth to go, Elektra unleased a furious late charge to catch Baton Rouge a step before the wire. This was her fifth career win in just fourteen starts for trainer Linda Rice. Jason Blewitt made it the highlight of the day on his Belmont in 30 daily show.

Karakorum Fugitive, facing non-winners of two state-bred allowance foes, broke alertly under Jose Lezcano and settled in fourth place behind Gattinara, about four lengths off the lead. She gradually moved up along the outside and took the lead coming out of the turn into the stretch. He then scampered home in the mist to win easily without breaking a sweat. Trainer Jimmy Jerkens may try her on the turf in the near future.

Sergeant Karakorum, facing $50k maiden claimers over a sealed fast Belmont strip, recorded his first career victory for trainer Jeff Odintz. Sergeant broke badly again and trailed by as much as fifteen lengths heading to the stretch. But Sebastian Morales never gave up and once he angled him out at the top of the lane, this big chestnut colt by Thunderello seemed to sprout wings. He flew past the tiring front runners and nailed the prohibitive favorite by a head on the wire at odds of 20-1. Sarge will get a chance to go a longer distance, perhaps at a mile next time out. |
